I immediately – and slightly begrudgingly – factored a new pile of research into my life. I expect lots of journalists and pollsters did the same, but to a greater extent: until 8th June they’ll be working flat-out. Hopefully the majority of the public feels the same weight of responsibility, a similar burden of work, settling on their shoulders. And the nature of this work? Well, we all have to listen, in good faith but with a critical ear, to the cases set out before us by our politicians.
